Designed by Kazuko Okamoto in 2025 for Tonin Casa, the Checker bookcase originates from the idea of transforming an essential structure into an element capable of conveying visual movement and lightness. The project is based on a skilled use of diagonals, which break the static nature of traditional forms and give rhythm to the overall composition.
The diagonally arranged side panels increase structural solidity, while the diagonal cut of the front edges of panels and shelves further enhances the sense of dynamism. The visual impact becomes even more striking when multiple modules are connected, allowing for customized and scenographic compositions.
Despite its strong design identity, Checker maintains a balanced and non-imposing presence, integrating harmoniously with books and decorative objects. This quality makes it ideal both as a living room bookcase and as an office bookcase, perfect for professional environments that require functionality without sacrificing design.
Various customizations are available on the official website, to adapt the bookcase to specific project needs.
