Designed by Davide Tonizzo, Uaigong was created to build a cultural bridge between China and Italy, two countries linked by a long and rich artisanal tradition. Its name derives from the Mandarin word “Wàigong,” meaning maternal grandfather, and is presented in its Italian pronunciation, reinforcing the concept of cultural fusion at the heart of the project.
This cuckoo clock reinterprets the grandfather clock in a modern key, reducing its formal language to the essential. The fusion of the two worlds is expressed through red and gold colors, symbols of Chinese culture, combined with a clean, rigorous form, referencing contemporary Italian design.
The battery-powered cuckoo movement is equipped with a photosensitive sensor that automatically stops the chime in the absence of light. An integrated control panel allows adjusting the sound intensity or turning it off completely, offering a customizable and discreet user experience.
Uaigong goes beyond functionality, becoming a narrative design object, where memory, tradition, and modernity coexist in perfect balance.
