“Cancan” Coat Stand in Oak or Walnut – WEWOOD

The Cancan coat stand by WEWOOD, designed by Studio Gud in 2013, originates from the encounter between functionality, constructive simplicity and a strong expressive component.

The structure is made up of vertical wooden elements connected to one another by a leather cord, a detail that performs both a structural and decorative function. The result is a furnishing accessory that is visually light yet immediately recognizable.

Cancan therefore transforms an everyday object into a sculptural element capable of furnishing the space even when it is not in use.

Inspired by the Movement of the Cancan

The name Cancan directly recalls the famous French dance and the dynamic movement of its dancers.

The inclined lines of the structure and the rhythm created by the wooden elements evoke skirts in motion, fluid gestures and dynamic figures, translating this inspiration into an essential and contemporary composition.

Despite its rigorous structure, Cancan therefore maintains a sense of movement and lightness that defines its character.

Wood and Leather

The structure is crafted in oak or walnut, two wood species that enhance the slender proportions of the coat stand and emphasize its natural material quality.

Designer

Studio Gud was founded through the collaboration of designers Paulo Neves and Alexandre Kumagai in Porto, Portugal.

The studio developed from a long-standing professional and personal collaboration between the two designers, following experiences gained respectively at ALSC and De La Espada.
