“Orca” Chair in Oak or Walnut – WEWOOD

The Orca chair by WEWOOD, designed by Studio Gud in 2012, originates from the meeting of traditional craftsmanship, technological precision and a formal exploration capable of conveying lightness despite the solidity of the structure.

The design uses wood as both a structural and expressive element, creating a chair characterized by fluid lines, balanced proportions and particularly complex construction details.

A Dynamic and Sculptural Structure

One of Orca’s most recognizable features is the distinctive geometry of its legs, achieved through advanced woodworking techniques and precision production systems.

The structure creates a sense of movement and makes the chair appear visually light while maintaining stability and strength.

The different components interact continuously with one another, creating a dynamic silhouette in which structure and form become one.

A Backrest Inspired by the Orca

The chair takes its name directly from the shape of its backrest, which recalls the powerful and elegant dorsal fin of an orca.

Designer

Studio Gud was founded through the collaboration of designers Paulo Neves and Alexandre Kumagai and is based in Porto, Portugal.

The studio developed from a long-standing friendship and the professional experience gained by the two designers: Alexandre as senior designer at De La Espada and Paulo as senior designer at ALSC.

Studio Gud develops projects in the fields of product design and interior design, focusing on the relationship between function, form, materials and construction quality.

Orca expresses this approach through a complex yet visually light structure, in which the precision of woodworking becomes an integral part of the chair’s aesthetic identity.
