Designed by Davide Tonizzo, Uaigong was created with the aim of building a cultural bridge between Italy and China, two countries united by a deep artisanal tradition.
The name comes from the Mandarin word “Wàigong”, meaning maternal grandfather, and is presented in its Italian pronunciation to further strengthen the dialogue between the two cultures.
The project reinterprets the traditional grandfather clock in a contemporary key, reducing its form to the essential and transforming it into a timepiece with a clean and refined language.
The fusion of the two worlds is expressed through the colors red and gold, symbols of Chinese culture, combined with an extremely minimal form that clearly references Italian design.
The result is a balanced and meaningful clock, where tradition, memory, and modernity coexist harmoniously.
The battery-powered quartz movement ensures precision and reliability, completing a project that combines narrative value with functionality.
Uaigong goes beyond the simple measurement of time, becoming a cultural design object capable of telling stories and identities through form and color.
