“Touch” Chest of Drawers in Wood and Iron – WEWOOD

The Touch chest of drawers by WEWOOD, designed by Suricata Design Studio in 2012, originates from an exploration of materials and the ability of design to engage not only sight, but also touch.

Its main characteristic is a soft, rounded silhouette, designed to highlight the flexibility of wood and naturally invite physical interaction with the surfaces.

The design combines the warm presence of natural wood with the visual solidity of iron, creating a balance between organic forms, contrasting materials and artisanal precision.

A Form Designed to Be Touched

The name Touch summarizes one of the central aspects of the project: the physical relationship between the object and the person.

The curved, continuous surfaces enhance the visually soft quality of the wood and encourage the desire to follow its profile by hand.

The tactile component therefore becomes an integral part of the experience of the furniture, transforming a simple chest of drawers into an object capable of engaging multiple senses.

The Contrast Between Wood and Iron

The identity of Touch comes from the combination of two materials with deeply different characters.

The wood introduces warmth, natural grain and an organic feeling, while the iron adds solidity and a stronger, more contemporary accent.

The contrast between the warm surface of the wood and the cooler character of the metal enriches the composition without compromising its balance.

The precision of the joints and workmanship also contributes to the overall perception of quality.

Storage Capacity and Vertical Development

Touch is designed to offer a generous storage capacity while maintaining a relatively compact footprint.

The structure develops primarily in height, reaching 147.5 cm, while the width and depth remain limited to 54.5 cm.

These proportions make effective use of vertical space and make the chest of drawers particularly suitable for interiors where additional storage capacity is required without using excessively wide furniture.

A Sculptural Presence for Different Interiors

Its rounded form and material character allow Touch to fit into different environments.

Suricata Design Studio is a collective of designers based in central Porto.
